In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty

Balloon Sinuplasty is a clinically proven, safe, effective, minimally invasive surgical option, for the treatment of blocked sinuses or for patients suffering from sinusitis. In-office minimally invasive sinus surgery is an alternative option for patients with non-complex disease who want to avoid general anesthesia.

While the majority of Balloon Sinuplasty procedures have been performed in an outpatient or ambulatory surgical setting, it is now available as an in-office procedure using the same technology found in hospitals. Your physician will recommend which approach is best for you.

Advatages of In-Office Balloon Sinuplasty

Patients undergoing In-office Balloon Sinuplasty:

  • are anesthetized with topical and local anesthetics, avoiding general anesthesia
  • receive the same benefits of a hospital procedure without the hospital setting
  • have next day results and proven successful, overall outcomes
  • experience shortened pre-op and post procedure recovery times
  • avoid additional out-of-pocket costs for co-pays and facility fees

Candidates for treatment

Patients who experience the following symptoms may be a candidate for this treatment:

  • sinus infections 2 to 3 times per year
  • recurrent facial pain pressure
  • headaches
  • decreased sense of smell
  • recurrent ear infections
  • upper respiratory infections that last longer than 7 to 10 days

What to expect

An ear nose and throat (ENT) specialist, using a small endoscope with an attached camera, positions a guide together with a small balloon and a lighted guide wire and inserts this into the sinus that requires dilating. The balloon is then inflated and in less than 10 to 15 seconds the necessary dilatation is complete. The physician then repeats the procedure on the next sinus.

Recovery and Follow-up

The procedure is painless, and since no removal of tissue is required, bleeding is minimal. Recovery is fast and patients who have the in-office procedure can return to normal activity almost immediately.
